Adult Language Classes

Italian Language for Beginners through Advanced

To learn a language is to have one more window from which to look at the world

Whether your goal is to speak with grandma, engage with locals on your next holiday, or enjoy a challenge, learning a new language opens up a world of possibilities.

As your instructor, I bring my 15+ years of teaching experience in higher education and as a private tutor for both children and adults and my academic background in language acquisition to the table to create a rich and engaging learning environment for my students.

Worried about speaking anxiety, keeping up with the pace, and making mistakes?

I’ve got you covered. I love seeing language acquisition in action and am dedicated to figuring out what works best for each person. Unlike an online program or large class setting, I’m able to tailor and adjust each course to fit the needs of my students. Together we’ll build competence with confidence!

Individual Lessons

Duration: 1 hour
Location: In-person or remote

Individualized learning plan

Flexible schedule

Learn at your own pace

Individual classes are a great way to tie your learning experience to a specific goal. For example, if you are planning a vacation, you might want to focus on a different vocabulary than if you are planning to work abroad.
Sessions are tailored to your needs and you’ll also have the flexibility to schedule classes based on your calendar. You’ll start with an initial meeting to assess your level and learning goals and then I will develop your personalized learning plan.

Individual lessons are great for every level, but I find them fruitful for students at the upper intermediate level and above. Students at the elementary or intermediate level might benefit more from a small group learning experience (see below).

COST
$75/single class
$350/5-class package
$675/10-class package
Workbooks and materials are included with your class fees.

Small Group Sessions

Duration: 1.5 hours
Location: In-person (East Side of Providence)

Gain Confidence Speaking With Others

Tailored Group Environment

Develop New Peer Relationships

Small group classes are a fun way to practice language skills in a community of fellow learners. The limited class size fosters a collaborative environment while still allowing for the development of a program that is tailored to your individual goals and learning style.

Each student will meet with me individually for an initial assessment (to discuss goals, strengths, learning styles, and interests) and then again for a final recap with personalized feedback. During each session, you will engage in meaningful interactions while practicing your language skills.

Beginning Italian

For students with little to no prior knowledge of the Italian language. You will develop a solid foundation in Italian vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation. Through engaging activities, dialogues, and multimedia resources, you will acquire the skills to communicate effectively in everyday situations.
By the end of the course, you will be able to talk about yourself and your daily life and understand short written texts and audios.

Workbooks and materials are included with your class fees.

Intermediate Italian

At the intermediate level, we build on your previous knowledge of Italian and focus on expanding vocabulary, learning new grammar structures, and refining communication skills. We do so through engaging pair and group activities and using authentic cultural materials (written texts, video and audios, webpages, and more).
By the end of the course, you will be able to talk about complex topics, express opinions in a nuanced way and describe past events.

Advanced Italian

This is a discussion-based class for students who have completed the intermediate level and are looking to engage with the material on a deeper level.
We’ll discuss a combination of contemporary topics and literary texts. This class does not have a grammar focus, but we will briefly tackle any doubts if they arise.

FAQ

In-person classes are held at UpRiseHer on the east side of Providence (335 Hope St, Providence, RI 02906).
Class fees include all materials we’ll use throughout the course. Students always receive all course materials (hard + digital copies) before and/or after the class, as needed.
If you miss a class, you will still receive the materials that were covered in the class. If something is unclear, we will go over it again in the next class.
It’s very common, especially for older generations, to speak dialects, which linguistically are actual languages. This class will teach you to speak standard Italian. You will be able to communicate with family members who speak standard Italian and there will be some mutual understanding if they only speak dialect, but this class will not teach you regional dialects.
